: Brain Injury News and InformationThank you Brain Injury Association of New York State
By Michael Kaplen
It is with great honor as well as sadness that I attended my final board meeting as a member of the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Association of New York State today.
After serving on the board of directors for the past 15 years and as president for nine years, I am no longer eligible, pursuant to our by laws, to continue for another term of board service. However, as I stated earlier today at our board meeting, I will continue to serve the association and promote our mission, to improve the quality of life for persons with a brain injury, their family and friends and prevent future brain injuries from occurring.
I believe that my many hours and years of service has benefited the association and our members. During my service, I have witnessed the association grow in many respects. Our association has become stronger and we now speak as the voice of the brain injury community in New York State. Our opinions and positions are sought out and respected by our health department, by the medical community and by other advocacy groups throughout our state and nation. Our board of directors is diverse and represents all aspects of the brain injury community. Our association has grown and is on a stable financial foundation allowing us to continue our vital role and mission.
I will continue to serve as chairperson of the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Services Coordinating Council where we are now working on the development of updated long term plan for brain injury services and support in New York State as well as recommendations to the department on ways to better serve those with brain injury in New York.
I appreciate all the kind words that were spoken about me today and the thanks that our board of directors and current president conveyed.
