Under the New Jersey judicial code, a judge may make movies but not publicize them, so this judge is resigning.  I found it interesting that the ruling didn't cite any particular provisions of the judicial code.       .  .  .  .  .        "The New Zealand government Monday appointed a judicial conduct panel to inquire into allegations of bias against a Supreme Court judge."       .  .  .  .  .        "Under pressure from Congress, the Federal Trade Commission has agreed to postpone enforcement of its 'Red Flags' rule that requires lawyers, doctors and other professionals to develop written identity theft prevention programs."       .  .  .  .  .       That last item brings to mind an emerging trend for law firms: compliance.  European and UK firms are more familiar with the concept, given that their privacy laws and "suspicious financial transaction" laws are stronger than ours.  But this approach seem inevitably headed for US biglaw, imho.  Here's an example (h/t: Common Scold) of a Minnesota investment firm paying a $700,000 fine for failing to maintain certain emails.  How long before we see those sorts or regs forcing policy changes within law firms?       .  .  .  .  .       A Philadelphia real estate lawyer was also a real estate developer, and that led to a parting of the ways with his firm.       .  .  .  .  .       "When Is an E-discovery Burden an Undue Burden?"       .  .  .  .  .       Vinson & Elkins' retirement policy prompts successful lawyer to switch firms.  I had thought that firms were scrapping those policies in the wake of the EEOC proceedings, and that firms were using compensation decisions as the tool for easing out less productive lawyers.       .  .  .  .  .
