"Definitely no deal" - that's how Ken Marvin, Director of Lawyer Regulation for The Florida Bar, put it when we asked him today whether a deal had been made regarding Gardiner's law license during the pendency of the JQC proceedings that led to her resignation.  As to whether or not 17th Circuit Grievance Committees are conducting the investigations into Gardiner and Satz's chum Howard Scheinberg, Marvin couldn't answer, due to confidentiality rules that govern these situations.  He did make it quite clear, however, that it would be a mistake to assume that these matters are being handled locally (honest to goodness, we could almost see him winking through the phone line).  Marvin pointed out that Scott Rothstein's disbarment was handled by an out of county committee, and that it's common for a Designated Reviewer or for committee members to recognize a potential problem and ask for the matter to be handled in a different circuit...continue to full post
