At South Carolina Criminal Defense Blog is this post about a judge who ordered a criminal defense lawyer to apologize to a police officer for a cross-examination that "impugned the officer's integrity."  On the face of it, this sounds absurd, but it would be worth reading the transcript.  I will see if I can find it.       . . . . .       Carolyn Lamm, president of the ABA, offers this op-ed against subjecting the legal profession to financial regulation of general application.  We'll see a lot more of these debates.       . . . . .        The ABA files an amicus supporting judges who are seeking cost of living increases.       . . . . .       The Law Society of Scotland has objected to new policies for police interrogations, claiming that the policies would lead to breaches of the solicitors' ethics code.  The Society says it was not consulted during the drafting of the policies.       . . . . .       A poll suggests that relationships are strained between IT groups and legal departments within corporations.  The stress of e-discovery is no doubt driving the tensions.       . . . . .        In Sisk v. Transylvania Community Hospital, the Supreme Court of North Carolina affirmed the trial court's inherent power to disqualify lawyers who had been admitted pro hac vice, where the lawyers had improperly contacted the opponent's expert.  (h/t: Leagle, which is a very useful site for lawyers.)  The name of the case, with "Transylvania," gives us a chance to note that Transylvania University was one of the earliest law schools in the US.
