FL: Charter school gives city a Friday deadline to grant approval

By Alliance Alert

ADVERTISEMENTS
Miami Herald: "Somerset Academy has given the city a Friday deadline to issue a certificate of use for a proposed 675-student charter school at University Baptist Church or 'Somerset will pursue all available remedies,' the school's attorney wrote in a letter last week to City Attorney Elizabeth Hernandez. ... Hernandez says . . . the site is zoned for a religious institution and allows a school only as a secondary use. But representatives for the school say land use and zoning changes are not needed because a state law allows churches to house charter schools regardless of zoning."
