Maquet is seeking a Patent Agent to report to the Director of Legal Affairs of Maquet Cardiovascular and work closely with the entire Intellectual Property Legal team to help support the patent needs of our global businesses. This position requires an individual with strong analytical skills and the ability to work seamlessly in a matrix reporting structure.

Responsibilities:
? Patent prosecution, including the preparation, filing, and prosecution of new patent applications.
? Supporting counsel in the preparation of intellectual property related legal opinions on issues such as freedom to operate, ownership, infringement, and validity.
? Supporting patent related due diligence in commercial transactions such as acquisitions, divestitures, and licensing.
? The candidate must also be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:
? Be highly motivated, with the ability to proactively organize a heavy workload and demonstrate excellent analytical abilities.
? Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate comfortably at all levels within business clients, and with multinational personnel from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and locations.
? A flexible and proactive approach to problems and demands, with the ability to thrive on challenge and react quickly and positively to a fast-moving and challenging environment.
? A record of providing legal services in a timely, accurate, and professional man-ner.

Qualifications:
? Bachelors degree in a Physics or Engineering discipline required.
? Five plus year?s experience, preferably with a law firm.
? Successful candidate must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
? Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is essential.
? Must have a minimum of 5 years experience prosecuting patents before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and coordinating non-U.S. prosecution and patent portfolio administration.
? Must have experience in analyzing the patentability of inventions and validity of patents, including the preparation of patent applications, opinions, and the filing of U.S. patent applications.
? Experience in intellectual property litigation is a plus, including experience investigating infringement by third parties, assisting in the preparation of cease and desist letters, and interfacing with outside counsel.
