Under pressure from environmental groups, Berkeley attorney withdraws from delta panel

Richard Roos-Collins, a Berkeley environmental lawyer, was one of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's appointees to the newly created Delta Stewardship. He had been working on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan for several years.  That plan was an effort to rehabilitate the delta through a large-scale conveyance system that would funnel water around the delta.  Roos-Collins would have been among those on the council evaluating the project.

But environmental groups claim he's "conflicted," according to Jim Metropulos, legislative representative with the Sierra Club. That organization, together with the NRDC, Environmental Defense Fund and others, submitted a letter of protest to the Rules Committee.  Consequently, Roos-Collins has removed his name via a resignation letter dated July 2.
