: Legal Blog WatchBubble Assault? Let's See the Raw Footage
By Eric Lipman
ADVERTISEMENTS
The following video of a police officer threatening to arrest a protester at the G20 summit in Toronto for blowing bubbles, and that same protester subsequently being handcuffed and thrown in the back of a paddy wagon, has been posted all over the internet: I first found it at Law is Cool. Scott Greenfield has it up at Simple Justice, and he got it from Jonathan Turley. I have great respect for each of these blogs and their respective proprietors. But did none of them notice the "time lapse" nature of the video? From video of the young lady pouting after having been threatened, we cut to a "Moments later . . ." black screen, and then the arrest. Is arresting a girl for blowing bubbles at a protest silly? Absolutely. Do we know that's what happened here? No, not from this video. Granted, she doesn't seem like the kind of person who would suddenly turn violent. But why would the person posting this video edit it this way? If any readers can point me to the uncut version, I'd love to see it.Full post as published by Legal Blog Watch on July 13, 2010 (boomark / email).
