Blank Rome has elected Alan J. Hoffman to serve as chairman and Carl M. Buchholz to serve as managing partner and chief executive officer, both for three-year terms, effective Jan. 1, 2012. This is an extension of Buchholz?s current position, and the movement of Hoffman as co-chairman to the sole chairman of the firm.

In accordance with Blank Rome?s partnership agreement, Co-Chairman T. Michael (Mike) Dyer was not eligible to stand for re-election, and his three-year term as co-chairman will end on Dec. 31, 2011. Dyer will continue to assist the firm?s international growth efforts and its government relations practice based in Washington D.C., Blank Rome Government Relations, the firm said in a statement.

?I am grateful for the continued support and confidence of our partnership,? Buchholz said in the statement. ?I am thrilled to continue serving the firm and working with our group of respected national and international attorneys to differentiate our full-service capabilities and offer excellent service and additional value to our clients.?

Under the leadership of Hoffman, Dyer and Buchholz, Blank Rome established its first West Coast presence, opening an office in Los Angeles in March 2009, which now has nearly 20 attorneys. Blank Rome is preparing to open its second international office later this year in Shanghai.

?I have very much enjoyed collaborating with Mike in our roles as co-chairmen for the past two years, and look forward to watching our collective efforts continue to take shape and play out over the upcoming year,? Hoffman said in a statement. ?As a result of careful planning and management, coupled with targeted lateral recruiting and expansion, Blank Rome is poised to accomplish our strategic growth trajectory, enabling us to continue to compete in the increasingly global environment.?

The three-man leadership team was scheduled to first take over the firm?s management Jan. 1, 2009, but those plans were unexpectedly moved up when then-chairman David Girard-diCarlo was named U.S. Ambassador to Austria in mid-2008. Dyer practices in the firm?s Washington, D.C., office and Hoffman and Buchholz are based in Philadelphia. Dyer?s firm, Dyer Ellis & Joseph, merged with Blank Rome in 2003.
