: GamePolitics.comReport: Sony Plays Offense on PS3 Jailbreak Software and Users
By james_fudge
PSX-Scene reports that Sony has doubled up on its efforts to stop USB-based modchip software used to "jail-break" the PlayStation 3. In a new round of legal filings in California, Sony has added open-sourced projects such as PSGroove, PSFreedom, OpenPSJailbreak, and others.
In addition, exhibit documents submitted to the court point fingers at users. The exhibits contain "printouts from various blogs, forums, and sites like PS3News with comments and tutorials people have been writing up on how to use these various programs," according to PSX-Scene.
Using the forum and blog postings as evidence, Sony may seek a court order to force ISPs and webhosts to disclose the identities of those sharing the information. The belief is that it will use this information to serve DMCA takedown notices to get the removed from the offending sites.
A full list of the court documents can be found on the PSX-Scene site.
