Well, I sit here with egg on my face. The Book I felt was perhaps the weakest on the Booker shortlist, won. Congratulations to Howard Jacobson. Having enjoyed some of his previous novels I wont complain too much, and in that he can at least be called a ‘worthy winner’ but I am astonished the judges could have reached the decision they did.
On the bright side, C didn’t win, so the Bookie’s will be very happy.
Oh, and as an aside, I’m sure if you check out any comments on the prize today, you wont have to go far to find anyone who didn’t like the book or its characters being labelled anti-semitic. Let’s face it, that easier than accepting someone has a different opinion than you do.?
