: The GavelWinner in MI Race Pens Guest Column
By Peter Hardin
Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young, reelected in a tough and high-spending campaign, said in a post-election commentary he was honored to get another term “with the task of restoring the rule of law to Michigan.”
Justice Young’s commentary was published in The Michigan View, an online site that is a service of The Detroit News.
Here is an excerpt from his statement, as it appeared in The Michigan View:
“As I have done for the past 11 years, we, the new rule of law majority elected by The People, will not allow our own social, moral or political views supersede the collective will of the people. By doings so, we will not decide cases based on what we personally think is fair, but restore stability and predictability to the law by ensuring justice under law and giving the words of the Constitution and statues their plain meaning.
“When the courts follow this approach, everyone can reasonably know what the law is without having a judicial mind reader.”
