Aftermarket Parts Still Not Good Enough

By E L Eversman

ADVERTISEMENTS

Fox News in Atlanta, GA continues its investigation into the efficacy of using aftermarket parts for our collision repairs.   Frighteningly, Jack Gillis of the Certified Aftermarket Parts Association (”CAPA) suggested the body shop owner was responsible for creating a false impression about the potential use of a specific part in the repair of a BMW.  Mr. Gillis neglected to point out that it was the insurance company adjuster who demanded the use of the wrong part  in the first place, which was encouraged by the improper information in the database used by both insurers and collision repairers, and by CAPA failing to take responsibility for the fact that the part continued to be identified as a CAPA certified part within that database for a year after being notified of its improper inclusion.
