: Practical ParalegalismAttorney and Paralegal's Valentine's Day Activities Lead to Marijuana Bust
By Lynne DeVenny
An unnamed 49-year old paralegal (I include her age to demonstrate she's old enough to know better) was in the car with a well-known Jacksonville, Florida civil rights attorney when police decided to take a closer look at the vehicle.
I wish I could say the two were reviewing exhibits for a trial in a parked car at 9:10 a.m. on a Monday, but no, the officers were drawn to the vehicle by what appeared to be some folks knockin' boots.
I wish I could say the car was discreetly parked in a secluded area, but it was on a street "commonly used for prostitution and narcotics-related activity."
I wish I could say this was the worst of it, but no, the lawyer was ticketed for marijuana possession after police found two joints on the dashboard.
Finally, I wish I could say the lawyer said something intelligent and lawyerly, but he allegedly told the officers that the joints belonged to his kids, and the paralegal was giving him a back rub while discussing a case.
Way to go, Dad. And guys? Next time get a room.
I don't think the cops bought the old my-trusty-paralegal-was-giving-me-a-back-rub excuse. They also gave the attorney a warning for suspicious activity.
