Random Quotes and Thoughts
Posted on July 29, 2008Thomas Sowell has a few good quotes in his "Random Thoughts" post today. Here is my favorite: "Government bailouts are like potato chips: You can't stop with just one. " Between the stimulus checks and corporate bailouts this country is acting crazy.I know we all enjoy having a few extra bucks in our pockets from the stimulus checks, but that cannot be the answer to every economic issue this country faces...
Interview Follow-Ups
Posted on July 29, 2008The WSJ has a great article about interview follow-up emails. A lot of us now adays use emoticons or shorthand when texting or emailing friends. Apparently, a lot of us are also using them in interview follow-up emails as well. I am sure a lot of people are not even aware that they are doing so, and if they are, they are probably not aware at how offensive many hiring managers find these practices...
B-day weekend
Posted on July 28, 2008I had a great b-day weekend. My husband took me shopping and exploring downtown, which was an absolute blast. We also made it to the X-Files movie, which was also pretty cool. And I capped the weekend off my by relaxing Sunday away. The only really negative thing that happened over the weekend was that I have a pretty nasty cut above my nose...
Who Didn't See This Coming?
Posted on July 25, 2008Crocs Sinks on Concern Allure Is Fading as Sales Drop I hope people did not buy stock in this company as a long-term investment. Seriously, these shoes may be the ugliest things worn since jelly shoes. Sorry loyal Croc fans, this is what we call a fad.
John Edwards
Posted on July 25, 2008So, I am sure most of you have at least heard of the latest National Enquirer scandal involving John Edwards. I haven't posted on it because, well, the National Enquirer is the source of the story. However, Fox News found an eye witness at the hotel to corroborate the story...
X-Files: I Want to Believe
Posted on July 25, 2008I want to believe that my husband will buy me tickets to this movie tonight. :)
French 35-hour work week goes away!
Posted on July 25, 2008I think it is great to have a good work/life balance, but you can do so even if you work more than 35 hours a week. I just read an article at Bloomberg, discussing how distraught many white-collar workers are over in France about the dissipation of the 35-hour work week...
Good Luck Annie!
Posted on July 24, 2008Good luck to Annie, who is competing at the Bix 7 this weekend!
Iran is just a small country!
Posted on July 24, 2008Does anyone else find Obama's Iran policies confusing? I am open to hearing from any Obama supporters on this issue. In May 2008 he said ?Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny, they don?t pose a serious threat to us.? Then yesterday Obama said ?A nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat and the world must prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon...
Weekend Plans
Posted on July 23, 2008Well, I am celebrating another b-day this weekend. My hubby has arranged a downtown adventure for me, consisting of a train ride in to the city, visits to various museums and cool buildings, and good eating! In addition to my downtown adventure I hope to make it to the new X-Files movie...
Who is going to bail out the Federal Govt when it fails?
Posted on July 22, 2008Mortgage giant rescue could cost $25b!
You can decide for yourself.
Posted on July 22, 2008An editorial by David Evans."I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian government to estimate carbon emissions from land use change and forestry. When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty conclusive, but since then new evidence has weakened that case...
Tired
Posted on June 11, 2008I can barely keep my eyes open today. I have had a hard time adjusting to the time zone change and a very busy work schedule. I am hoping that once I get a more established routine (that includes a little more sleep) that I won't be a complete zombie in the mornings...
Post Law School Update
Posted on June 10, 2008Hello everyone! Thought I would give a quick update. I am now living in a new town and working everyday. It feels awesome to actually apply what I learned in law school and receive a paycheck for my efforts! Life is good right now. I don't have anything to complain about...
Update
Posted on May 01, 2008Well I have no clue what happened to my blog. I am still investigating.Anyway, classes are over. Assuming I pass all of my law school exams this last semester, I will never have to attend a law school class again! What a feeling! I cannot wait to move on to the next chapter of my life...
OMG
Posted on April 16, 2008Where did my blog go and all the posts I created over the past three years? I apparently need to speak to someon at Google. :(
Back
Posted on March 28, 2008Well it has been awhile since I last posted. Here's a recap of what I have been up to the last few weeks. I flew to my future hometown (Chicago) with my husband last week and found a nice, new place to live. It would have been impossible to pick a place to live using only Internet postings...
Lawschool spam
Posted on March 11, 2008Dear Law School,I am sick of receiving law school spam emails. I do not want any more emails relating to BBQ's, free candy, Barbri, Kaplan, public interest work, etc. I seriously receive about 15-30 a day! Please only forward emails related to my graduation status...
Yucky Commercials
Posted on March 08, 2008Does anyone else get grossed out by the new Carl's Jr. chili cheeseburger commercials? I cannot stand to see a guy with what appears to be the product of a baby's diaper (it's supposed to be chili) smeared all over his face. Yuck!
Feeling slammed
Posted on March 04, 2008March is turning out to be one busy month. I am slammed with reading and outlining, and life in general. We need to paint our house and get the carpets cleaned, in preparation for selling it. Of course, there is a ton more house related stuff we will need to do before we even get to the point to paint and clean the carpets...
Bye to Brett Favre!!!!!!!!!
Posted on March 04, 2008My childhood hero is retiring! It is the end of an era for the Packers. Here's to hoping that Aaron Rodgers can step up and win some games next season.
Clothing issues...
Posted on February 25, 2008Back when I was a college athlete I had to purchase bigger sized jeans because my legs were a little too muscular for the pants that actually fit my waist. Anyway, I have not had this clothing dilemma since my competition days, that is, until now. I have been training pretty hard over the last few months, and my legs are getting noticeably bigger...
Hubby gets mega cool points....
Posted on February 24, 2008I was sitting here doing my corporate tax problems when someone knocked at my door. I opened the door and standing there was a flower delivery person. She was holding the most beautiful arrangement of roses I'd ever seen. Anyway, I accepted the flowers and opened the note, and this is what it said: " Dagny, I love you and am proud of you! Just a couple more months and you will have finished law school and we'll be on our way to Chicago...
Cool
Posted on February 24, 2008I am heading off to get an oil change, because my Jeep told me to do so. He-he, apparently my new Jeep has a sensor that tells me when the oil is getting too dirty. I am not sure why I think this is so cool, but it is to me! Following my Jeep's first oil change, I'm heading to a Fed-Ex store to send my tax info to the family accountant...
Another Lobes pic.........
Posted on February 19, 2008I don't know why, but this pic makes me happy. :)
The end is near, well at least it is within sight!!
Posted on February 19, 2008Nothing exciting to report. The semester is flying by and graduation is in sight! I cannot wait to graduate and move to a new town and start a new job. It is exciting to think that law school will be over in just a few short months. The emotional roller coaster, otherwise known as law school, will eventually end and I will be able to have a life again! I look forward to having weekends back...
Low Productivity
Posted on February 17, 2008I have not had the most productive weekend in the world. A friend came over and fixed the hole(s) in my apartment wall. And no it was not me or my husband who put holes in the wall. We saw the movie Jumper. Jumper is one of the worst attempts at sci-fi I have seen in awhile...
Best workout ever...
Posted on February 16, 2008So do you want a strong back? Apparently bowling works out your entire back. I know this because I can barely move this morning. My husband and I bowled three games yesterday and we are both very sore this morning. My hip, back, and my dang hand are all sore! And I consider myself to be somewhat athletic.
Another note to self...Lock your car doors!!
Posted on February 14, 2008I did not lock my car when running in the store yesterday morning on the way to school. And apparently someone stole my backpack during the five minutes I was looking for dental floss in the store. Luckily, my backpack did not contain my laptop. But the jerky thieves did manage to steal my advanced corporate tax treatise, as well as my class notes and problem sets...
