Pain

Posted on January 17, 2009
I’ve been having a week of progressively worsening pain in my arms and legs, which totally sucks because I am taking all the DAMN medication (and makes me think there may be something to my neurologist’s repeated insistence that, on top of the neuropathy and taking the IBS into account, I may have fibromyalgia)...

You Know You Suck When?

Posted on January 17, 2009
…your favorite teacher takes the time to write you an e-mail critiquing your paper and telling you its obvious you didn’t work up to your potential and she’s pretty disappointed. Um, no duh? What am I supposed to say to that? I didn’t give her my accommodation sheet since there wasn’t blind [...

Oy!

Posted on January 16, 2009
Remember that bad night hugging the bowl a few months back? Yeah, apparently I am a serious lightweight when it comes to liquor, especially when mixed with no food. Last night I went out with some friends and was going to have a beer but decided wine would be better...

Progress

Posted on January 15, 2009
Okay, so this might sound a little dumb but I realized tonight that I never have to see another violent, gory, nasty movie if I don’t want to. I can say no. I can say it without drama. I don’t have to be involved with people who want to control me or [...

Getting it

Posted on January 13, 2009
After my melancholy posts last night, I went back to my therapist today, who I had not seen since Thanksgiving thanks to finals and the holidays and her overbooked schedule. Spilled everything, from my constant up/down emotions, my need to somehow cram the “spare” time full of activities now that I’m not in school, [...

Hey, Jeff Mac

Posted on January 12, 2009
So I’ve been reading Jeff Mac’s awesome new book, Manslations: Decoding the Secret Language of Men, based on his blog. Go, buy one. Now! It is fantastic and hilarious. Jeff is a stand-up comedian and his book offers practical, straightforward advice on what men are really thinking...

Shit Sandwich

Posted on January 12, 2009
Warning: Whinefest Blue Eyes told me a few months ago that seeing your ex with a new person is like eating a shit sandwich because it is horrible but you have to stand there and take it. He was right. Chapin hasn’t met Blue Eyes yet but I had to meet Chapin’s girlfriend this [...

Laying off the books

Posted on January 11, 2009
School starts tomorrow. Good luck to all my sectionmates. As most of you know, I won’t be there. I’ve been kind of down this week about it. There was an awesome intercession class this week that I had been enrolled for and really wanted to take that I missed because of [...

Health Update

Posted on January 05, 2009
Went to the neurologist today for my EMG, followed by a consult with him. The EMG sucked, as expected and as remembered from 15 months ago. Especially when they stick the needles in your muscles and then say “please flex it this way/tighten it that way...

Life Changes in 2009

Posted on January 02, 2009
The New York Times has a depressing article today that basically says any changes you resolve to make in 2009 will probably fail or, if they succeed, will revert back within a few years (a la Oprah’s weight). They do mention four more successful strategies for making permanent changes, which I like to call [...

You Know Your Family is Dysfunctional When?

Posted on January 02, 2009
…you exchange self-help literature for Christmas. Or perhaps they are all trying to tell me something? From my father, I received Approval Addiction: Overcoming Your Need to Please Everyone. My mother game me Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child...

Porn for Women

Posted on January 02, 2009
I love this tongue-in-cheek book (and calendar and coupon book) by Cambridge Women’s Cooperative. Porn for Women is definitely a stocking stuffer for next year!

Gratitude List for 2009

Posted on January 02, 2009
I’m going to start the year with a list of all the things for which I am grateful. Hopefully this time next year I will be able to come back and add a bunch more. 1. Pumpkinhead - the greatest gift of all. He makes me laugh, keeps me on my toes and [...

Madoff scandal strips legal public interest groups? funding

Posted on January 02, 2009
The National Law Journal has an article about how some major granting organizations, including the JEHT Foundation, were hit incredibly hard by the Madoff Ponzi scheme. Unfortunately JEHT is a large funder of public interest legal groups and law schools nationwide...

2009 Resolution Part Two

Posted on January 02, 2009
Maybe instead of worrying about all the drama, as listed here, I will just read this book and try to live it (as my first therapist, the new age healer, recommended way back in March of last year): Not sure if my ego will let me (as Mr. Tolle says), but I suppose it doesn’t hurt [...

Living With Punks

Posted on December 30, 2008
I was cleaning my room and the cell phone rang. It was my Mom. I walked inside and handed the phone to my son. He said, “Mimi, Mommy is making me macaroni & cheese.” Hahahaha. Guess he was hungry, but what a way to ask. Then [...

Mania

Posted on December 29, 2008
Well my old Dad is back, sort of, but now I recognize it as his manic state. He is talking 10,001 miles a minute, is super-energetic, and gets pissy/irritable at anyone who will not go along with his plans. He was bouncing all over the place during our Christmas festivities, refusing to let [...

Sunday Stealing: The Screaming Masses Meme

Posted on December 26, 2008
Okay, so it is not Sunday. But here’s the meme from the 21st. Visit Sunday Stealing to get a copy for your blog and sign the Mr. Linky: 1. What is a nickname a former (or present) lover gave you? Gatita (means little kitty, because of my hazel eyes and my love of stretching/cuddling), [...
