That's the title of an editorial in the Sunday Houston Chronicle.  It's subtitled, "Those convicted of capital offenses get a much-needed advocate." With Texas far and away the leading practitioner of capital punishment in the nation, criticism of the quality of defense for those facing the ultimate punishment has steadily mounted. It focuses on the fact that a higher percentage of poor defendants represented by court-appointed counsel are executed than those who can afford their own defense lawyers.
