Legislators Changing Georgia Indigent Defense

Again today there is a string of legislative news from several states, and I will break them out into individual posts.  Let's begin in Georgia.  "Senate panel votes to defang public defender council's board," is Bill Rankin's report in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution.A key legislative panel voted Thursday to strip the board of Georgia?s public defender council of its power. By a 5-4 vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the measure after hearing testimony against the idea from a number of prominent Georgia attorneys.?We agree the agency is dysfunctional and needs some attention,? said Jeffrey Bramlett, president of the State Bar of Georgia.
