: Legal Ethics ForumI'll Believe This When I See It
Testifying before Congress today, Attorney General Eric Holder said the report of the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility on the torture memos is "in its last stages" and should be released by the end of the month. As those of you know who have been following this issue, the internal investigation by the DOJ's ethics watchdog has been complete since the fall of 2008, but has been held up (for reasons that are not clear) by Attorneys General Michael Mukasey and Holder. Rumors of its content (smoking gun emails!) have been leaked, but the real thing still remains undisclosed. Its release has been promised before, and I feel a bit like Charlie Brown running up to kick the football when I say this, but I think we may finally see the report, a mere year after its completion.
