: TinytechIPUS Patent 7795694 - Quantum ring
Quantum wells, wires, and dots represent structures in which the wavefunctions of electrons are confined to 2, 1, or 0 dimensions. Most often nanocrystals are used to achieve quantum dots but this patent from Fujitsu teaches another way based on the fabrication of quantum rings which may facilitate the construction of quantum logic devices. Claim 1 reads:
1. A quantum device, comprising:
a semiconductor substrate in a surface of which a ring-shaped groove is formed; and
a semiconductor film formed in the groove.
