A comment was left at my last post regarding government cut-off on funding. I actually was told something about this back when I was in undergrad while home from one of my friends; that our funding may indeed be cut-off one day.
I won?t get into weather or not the government can or cannot do this because, quite frankly, I honestly don?t know, although court cases, fiduciary duty and obligations, Aboriginal title, federal jurisdiction over ?Indians and Lands reserved for Indians,? Section 35 of the constitution, Treaty Rights, International Law, etc? might point to the argument that the funding may not be cut off, but like I said; I don?t know for sure. I never worked for the government nor have I ever bothered to inquire into this. But for the sake of argument, assuming that indeed the funding can be cut off, then I think what I posted is even more justified, and that we will have to work hard, develop our own resources, and to become self-sustaining/sufficient for the possibility that federal funding for Indians would be cut off. While I won?t stand by and just watch this happen, for a worst case scenario, if it were to, then we should be ready for it by being educated, empowered, etc? and everything else I blogged about before.
Anyway, time to get reading some Business Associations and then work on yearbook stuff.
