Jefferson County courthouse renovation will improve air quality, ease health concerns (6) (9/30/10)
After years of health concerns, air quality issues and mold problems, employees in the 35-year-old Jefferson County Hall of Justice should soon be able to breathe a little easier.
Louisville Metro government is spending nearly $5 million to replace the ancient heating, ventilation and cooling system in one of the state?s busiest buildings.
The work, which will begin in about a month, also involves installation of energy-efficient lights and new temperature controls ? saving money on energy bills and making the courthouse more environmentally compliant.
But, perhaps most important to those who work at the Hall of Justice, the renovation is expected to alleviate concerns that conditions there are causing illnesses.
?This is a long overdue improvement,? said Chief District Judge Sean Delahanty, who added that many employees have believed for years that conditions there were making people sick.
