Bar Exam Confidential

ADVERTISEMENTS
Shout out to Law School Ninja who blogged yesterday about the ubiquitous pre-law read, Law School Confidential. While she is at the beginning of her 3 year law journey, I had totally forgotten that there is a chapter at the very end of that book that talks about the barzam. After reading her post I went to my bookshelf and found the dusty copy at the back of one of the bottom shelves. I haven't opened it since a few weeks before my own law journey began. I don't even remember what I thought of the book when I read it before law school, but I was somewhat relieved to read the bar exam chapter. It definitely put things in perspective, and it was nice to read in black and white ink the very thing I have been trying to tell myself all summer: that it will all be fine.
"Try to remember that the bar exam is designed to be a minimum-proficiency exam. If you do the recommended studying you should pass. Try to relax. Lots of people who are not that smart pass this exam. . . Think about this: For every person witting in your bar review class, there is a hapless person who decided that he could review old outlines from classes to prepare for the bar exam, or an even more hapless person who decided that the summer after third year of law school was the last bit of free time he would have, and chose to spend that time traveling around and cramming for the bar exam in the last week instead of studying two months like you will. . . Essentially, it comes down to this: The people who work diligently and put forward a legitimate effort usually pass."

Law School Confidential, by Robert H. Miller, pg. 386-387.
