: [ Useless Dicta ]Good Deeds
Even though I absolutely love that show, I happen to think Phoebe was wrong on this one. Despite the fact that you feel good when you help out and do a good deed, I think giving back to your community and helping out your neighbors are among the most selfless acts we come across in life, and that is never a bad thing.
Since we're all swamped at the moment with life as law students, lawyers, etc. it can be hard to find the time (especially at this hectic time of year with holidays thrown in) to volunteer, help out, etc. But we can still do good deeds, here are some easy ways to do a good deed in honor of Thanksgiving:
Let's Say Thanks
This is seriously one of the EASIEST things I've ever done and it's a great idea, especially with Thanksgiving right around the corner. At letssaythanks.com you can select a FREE postcard, personalize it with your name and hometown, and the postcard you select will then be sent to US Military personnel serving our country abroad. It's a way to say thanks for everything they are doing, and again it's FREE. So do me a Thanksgiving favor and go say thanks!
(Red) Campaign
I've been a fan of the (Red) campaign since it launched a couple of years ago. I've purchased a lot of the stuff that the Gap sells for their (Red) line and I'm loving the Hallmark (Red) cards and e-cards. The (Red) campaign is launching a couple of new initiatives in the next week or so, all of the proceeds (and a decent amount of the profits made on (Red) product are proceeds that go to the campaign) go into the Global Fund which then uses the money to help provide medicine and medical care throughout various countries in Africa.
Starting Nov 27 Starbucks is going (Red) and a percentage of the proceeds from certain holiday drinks will be donated to the (Red) campaign. This is great for us law students (namely ME) who are going to be guzzling tons of Starbucks these next few weeks as finals approach, might as well order a drink on the (Red) list and do some good while fueling the constant need for caffeine.
(Red) is also launching a digital music service to raise money and awareness, looks kind of interesting and starts on December 1. It's a monthly subscription service, but the first two digital "issues" are free if you go to that link (joinredwire.com) and sign up with your email address- no credit card so you can truly give it a try for free!
