Elephant In The Room

Why yes, I did in fact allude to a job offer. And no, we can't talk about it. Mostly because it is contingent on that pesky little exam I took in July and I just don't feel right opening a bottle of champagne or sharing any life-changing plans until, well, the ducks are in a row. Until the papers are signed, the exam results are out, and I have a start date. No, I'm not leaving Chicago. Yes, I'm going to do something new. Sort of. Eh...how about I pinky swear to tell you all about it just as soon as I can? (I will however tell you that BPLF will not be my employer should this work out...)

So until then how about I share with you a cake recipe? This weekend, in an attempt to not think about hurricanes obliterating New Orleans and a realization
that The Artful Blogger had not gotten his birthday baked-good (something he does for each and every one of his friends, often baking for nights on end to achieve the perfect complex confection) I tried a recipe I found on Al Dente. I baked the cake in my New Orleans inspired fleur-de-lis bundt cake pan, and after having a slice with The Artful Blogger, Eddie, HASWOE and BISMOW, we all agreed it was delicious- moist, dense and perfect.

Lemon Bundt Cake

Ingredients:
1 (18.25 ounce) package lemon cake mix
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant lemon pudding mix
3/4 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1 cup lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 10-inch
Bundt pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix and pudding mix, then stir in the oil. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the lemon-lime soda.
3. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 35  minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes on a cooling rack, then
unmold cake. Cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container once cooled.

And, just because I feel like sharing, here is the New Orleans needlepoint my Grandmother made for me- it hangs in my kitchen, over my antique dresser I bought on Magazine Street in New Orleans, which now holds my liqueurs & my most-used cookbooks. She told me the pattern came with white and navy yarns but she thought that was "crazy" and instead used traditional Mardi Gras colors.....
