Little Blue Box

ADVERTISEMENTS
If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then the little blue box from Tiffany & Co. is the second best.

After a fairly relaxing day that did not include bar exam studying I went home to my parent's. When I arrived I noticed a box hanging out on the porch, so I picked it up figuring it was something my mom had ordered and had not been home to get when UPS showed up. I was confused when I read that the box was addressed to me. I hadn't ordered anything to be delivered at my parent's house. At first I thought my mom might have ordered something for me, so I didn't want to open it in case it was a surprise, although I had no idea what it could be because graduation is over and my birthday is a full 6 months away.

I asked my mom about it, she didn't know what it was either, so I opened it. I was floored when I saw that the tissue paper inside said "Tiffany & Co." I thought it was some kind of hoax. I opened up the little gift card and found that it was a belated graduation gift from my dad's cousin. AHHHHH A LITTLE BLUE BOX FROM TIFFANY!!!! I was literally bouncing off the walls!!! All you guys out there, take note: if you want to totally make a woman's day, bring her something in the little blue box, there's something about the perfect little white bow around the unmistakable greenish blue square box that's just so exciting, it's so pretty you almost don't want to open it.

So after several moments of OMG I GOT A BLUE BOX and admiring the packaging with my mom while my dad sat in the kitchen confused as to what all the fuss over the box was about, I untied the bow, took the lid off the box, and pulled out.............................

Yup, it's a pen. I felt like the biggest brat in the world for being slightly disappointed by it. I've never really been fond of fancy pens. Pens are things that I lose frequently. Pens are things that get thrown around without much care, lost in the depths of my purse and left strewn about my apartment/office/car/etc. Is it totally wrong if I exchange it for something else? Maybe put it towards a pendant or bracelet? I love jewelry and have worn my current Tiffany bracelet everyday for the last 3 years, so I would get a ton of use out of any jewelry I might pick out. The thought behind the gift is totally awesome, I was absolutely floored that I got something so thoughtful and nice from extended family, and the surprise factor totally made my whole weekend. But I just know that the pen will be something that will get stored away in some drawer and never used for fear that it'll end up getting lost with all the other pens that are fairly disposable in my life. Input on this is much appreciated!!
