: [ Useless Dicta ]Motivation Purgatory
I have 3 final papers this semester and not a single one of them is even started yet despite the fact that I have spent the last 3 weeks "working" on those papers. In addition, my final trial for advanced trial practice is in a pretty sorry state- I guess at least I know which witnesses I'm supposed to prep exams for and that I'm theoretically giving the closing argument, too bad I haven't gotten much farther than that. Since I don't have a job tied down yet I know that I should care about putting in a good effort to get decent grades, but I just can't seem to motivate myself to actually just buckle down and get going. I have stared at my computer for hours now trying to "write" those papers. I have spent many more hours avoiding the finals crunch all together by going out with friends, surfing the internet, watching TV, sleeping, shopping, and even working a bit extra at my internship.
I've always been a procrastinator, leaving things to the last minute (especially school assignments) is nothing new for me. The endless hours of staring at my computer hoping the darn papers will write themselves is also not new. But for some reason this semester seems far worse than any other semester (law school or not) in my memory. If I don't find some motivation to get going on all of my stuff in the next 12 hours or so I'm going to be in a world of hurt come this time next week, and even that fact alone is not enough to make me really care.
I blame it on the lack of snow and cold in [Useless] city. It's the end of November and there have been more flip flop kind of days than hat and scarf kind of days, which means I'd rather be outside enjoying the last bits of a truly Indian Summer and I don't have the lure of skiing up in the [Useless] mountains to motivate me to get anything done.
This blog post has in no way motivated me to spring to action on anything that I have to get done for school, but it has motivated me to go to bed early, maybe a bit of sleep will be a good thing come tomorrow morning...
