It Started With These

One year ago, these bad boys started what would soon become my signature mark on the world. So to honour my fave pair of shoes...the blog post that launched my mark of wearing red shoes, a time of my life that would end up being a crucible, and the pushing off for unknown oceans.
I broke down and bought me a pair of "Take No Prisoner" shoes. These bad-ass shoes rock. I'm wearing them now. Red pumps that have an attitude. Black trousers, swing jacket, and kick-ass red pumps. Sweet. Had a real cool coffee run with a colleague. Love the intellectual banter of my new world of which I've embarked. We ran the gamut of our lives and discovered some cross-over interests. I missed this over the last decade of my life. Not so scary once one leaves the train station. Actually quite a beautiful journey out this way. Leaving the train station is the scary part...saying goodbye to my familiar life was tough and frightening but now that I'm out this way...cool scenery. It's hard to jam my brain into a small blog entry. So much has gone down since I last wrote. I stand taller amidst the encouragement of friends. My walk is much more confident and I am laughing more often. Days like this encourage me to fly higher and soar faster. They make the darker days smoother. - June 1, 2008
That train left the station and has earned me the knickname "freighttrain" at work. Dark days do not hit the radar anymore like they did then. I'm loving the journey I'm on and the scenery is just breathtaking. I push hard and refuse to let others define me. They shape me and forge me as iron on iron. I could not ask for a better group of mates that I am now surrounded. They are strong, tall, funny as ever, and have grown incredibly close to me over this last year. These mates saw me thru the dark days and nights then delivered me intact to the present day.

The shoes are still my bad-ass shoes. I'll wear them tomorrow with jeans on the first day back to class. Somehow, I wonderfully made it a tradition to wear red shoes on the days I have law school. Kinda my secret (and now, not so secret) way of kicking ass in school. Tomorrow I'll get a call with a familiar voice on the other end saying confidently "Go kick ass in law school tonight" and I'll be fueled up and ready to ruck. I'll do them proud and more importantly, I'll do myself proud.

It's been one hell of a year. I wouldn't trade it for all the riches in the world and I hope to stand at this date next year and say the same thing and be that much further along in this journey of life.

Definitely know I'll have a boatload more of red shoes. Collection is at 15+ pairs and growing.

*laughing*
