My Stolen Lines #5

By Grace

ADVERTISEMENTS
Tell me... have you ever thought...of changing your life?*

Of course I have. Just not in the way YOU wish I would. Just not in the way that would make YOUR life more manageable. Not in the way that would make YOU sleep better at night.**

You would always lightly chastise me not to be so hard on myself. To forgive myself. To be nicer to myself. You did it in that therapisty*** way that made me believe you were right, and I was wrong. You did it in such a way that as you became meaner and more obsessive and more demanding... well this time I believed I DESERVED it. That you were reasonable, and I was unreasonable. Fuck you, you mama's boy asshole.

You were so quick to point out on your blog, (yes, Readers, he has a blog, and NO you cannot have the address, so don't even ask.) all the things you did right, all of the ways you were a champion, and of course, all the things I did wrong. And wow. Just wow. You completely forgot the jealous rages, the screaming at me in front of my friends, the throwing me out of a car. The violations of my privacy...

So, do I ever think about changing my life? Yes. I'll start by not having you in it.

Peace out.

*I stole the first line of this post from the play, Betrayal, by Harold Pinter as part of My Stolen Lines series of blog posts.

**I know I don't usually write directly about people in my life, but whatever, change can be good sometimes.

***Don't date therapists. They're nuts.
