Things I Accomplished on my Last First Day of School

ADVERTISEMENTS
The final semester of law school began today for me bright and early at 8:30am. I decided to be brave and take Corporations since I have zero business background and it's going to be on [Useless] state's bar exam. However, I left myself an escape plan by registering for an extra class that I don't need to graduate. So I had the option of taking Corporations plus a fun elective, or taking two fun electives and chickening out of Corporations. Turns out the decision to stay in Corporations wasn't hard at all.

I went to fun elective #1 and loved it, so I knew that I was keeping that class no matter what. But 5 minutes into fun elective #2 the first time adjuct professor announced that 50% of our grade would be a midterm exam that would be completed during SPRING BREAK . I logged onto the registratation website at that very moment and dropped the class. 2 minutes after I dropped the class, adjuct professor had the balls to tell a class full of 3Ls that there would be between 150 and 200 pages of reading per class. I tried to figure out how to make an exit that wasn't obvious and rude, but I couldn't figure out a good plan of escape, so I spent the rest of the class session catching up on journal related things.

Which brings me to my list of what I managed to accomplish on my last first day of school:

  • 16 minutes into my final semester I decided that I'm still totally over law school and don't give a shit about much of anything academically related to school.
  • 32 minutes into the semester I began planning my final spring break. I think I'm going to spend a few days skiing, work a few days to make some cash and then the week after spring break I'm going to take off to a conference in Washington D.C. "on behalf of the journal" (ie:paid for by [Useless] law school). Should be a pretty great way to spend 2 weeks.
  • 4 hours into the semester I went to Starbucks to get my second latte of the day.
  • 6.1 hours into the semester I dropped the above mentioned class taught by delusional professor.
  • 10.25 hours into the semester I joyfully discovered that one of my good law school buddies and I were among the only 5 3Ls in my admin law class (which is required to graduate from [Useless] Law- hooray for procrastination!) This means the majority of the class are 2Ls who still give a shit about reading and trying and all that bullshit. Since Admin professor doesn't have a grade for participation and also doesn't cold-call people, there really couldn't be any better scenario for this otherwise awful class.
  • 10.5 hours into the semester I decided that since the above scenario exists for boring admin law I had a good solid hour to perfect my Bejeweled skills. I scored 26,572 points on my first game. Sweet.
  • 12 hours into the semester I came 2 beers closer to the goal of completing World Beer Tour at Old Chicago by the time graduation day finally arrives.

All in all I would say that I had a highly productive (and throughly satifisfying) last first day of school.
