Top 10 Books

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Awhile ago I talked about Grandma Duke, who in addition to many other lovely life accomplishments, was at one point the book reviewer & critic for a major US newspaper. She still writes the occasional review & her home has two personal libraries in it. She sells books on eBay, adores independent book stores such as Vromans in California. She compiled, at my request, a list of her top 10 favorite books (not including Beach Music or Chiefs as we have already discussed her love for them). In no particular order, she insists you all read the following:

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Killer Angels by Michael Shaara

Absalom, Absalom by William Faulkner

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Winds of War by Herman Wouk

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

Bleak House by Charles Dickens

She also wanted me to mention that Ulysses often voted or chosen as the best literary piece of all time was "just mediocre" in her opinion. Wink.

Happy Reading & please send me your thoughts on Chiefs just as soon as you can.

Tomorrow, the December book pick (with extended time for reading due to the upcoming holiday season) and some holiday recipes...which incidentally, please start sharing as soon as you can!!
