Matthew Kahn, Guest-Blogging

By Eugene Volokh

ADVERTISEMENTS
(Eugene Volokh)

I?m delighted to report that my UCLA colleague Prof. Matthew Kahn will be guest-blogging again next week. Prof. Kahn is a Professor at the UCLA Institute of the Environment, Department of Economics, and the Department of Public Policy, the author of (among other books) Green Cities: Urban Growth and the Environment, and the author of the Environmental and Urban Economics blogs. Our readers might recall him from when he guest-blogged in early 2009, with his coauthor Prof. Dora Costa, about their book Heroes and Cowards: The Social Face of War.

This time Prof. Kahn will be guest-blogging about his new book, Climatopolis: How Our Cities Will Thrive in the Hotter World. As he puts it, ?The book uses ideas from microeconomics to explore a fundamental irony. Free market urban growth has caused climate change but free market capitalism will help urbanites in both the developed and developing world to adapt to climate change.? I don?t know much about the subject, but I?ve heard very good things about Prof. Kahn?s work in the field (see here for a recent review of his new book), and I?m looking forward to his posts.
