Abergil gang to be extradited to the U.S.

A motion to extradite Yitzhak Abergil and accomplices to the United States to stand trial on charges including murder, extortion, and drug dealing was granted today by the Jerusalem District Court. 

According to an indictment, Yitzhak Abergil took part in the murder of drug dealer Sami Atias in Los Angeles.  He, his brother Meir, and others are alleged to also have taken money embezzled from the Trade Bank for the purposes of extortion and money laundering. 

The defendants include the Abergil brothers, Sasson Barashi, Moshe Malul and Israel Ozifa. 

In his ruling, Judge David Cheshin wrote that when trying the suspects, the US District Court for the Central District of California may only consider those charges in the indictment pertaining to the US Racketeering Law regarding actions that occurred after Israel's Organized Crime Law was enacted by the Knesset on June 17, 2003. The activities for which the gang were charged took place between 2002 and 2006.
