When Banco Santander SA announced earlier this week that it will reacquire a nearly 25 percent stake in a former Mexican subsidiary that it sold to Bank of America in 2003, it was just the latest move by the Spanish banking conglomerate to solidify its international presence--a push that Nicholas Kronfeld at Davis Polk & Wardwell has helped along for more than a decade.
