: Law Blog - WSJ.comThe PM Roundup: The NRA Aims Its Sights on Chicago, More
By Ashby Jones
Today’s PM roundup goes out to novelist, essayist, helper-of-children, and all-around object of scorn, envy and adoration alike: Dave Eggers. Eggers recently said he’d send a hopeful email to anyone who wanted a few words about why print-journalism isn’t on its way out. Well, today, according to Gawker, Eggers delivered. We have no idea if Eggers is right, but his missive did brighten our spirits for about five minutes, which isn’t nothing.

NRA Challenges 7th Circuit Opinion: Wow, that was fast. The National Rifle Association didn’t sit around and nurse its wounds for long, after the Seventh Circuit on Tuesday declined to shoot down gun-control regulations in and around Chicago. According to this release, the NRA filed a petition for cert on Wednesday. Said Chris Cox, the NRA’s chief lobbyist: "The Seventh Circuit got it wrong. As the Supreme Court said in last year’s landmark Heller decision, the Second Amendment is an individual right that 'belongs to all Americans’. Therefore, we are taking our case to the highest court in the land.” Scotusblog
New Hampshire Passes Gay Marriage: New Hampshire legislators approved a measure Wednesday that makes the state the sixth to allow gay marriage. Gov. John Lynch signed it later in the afternoon. He had promised a veto if the law didn’t clearly spell out that churches and religious groups would not be forced to officiate at gay marriages or provide other services. The Senate passed the measure Wednesday, and the House — where the outcome was more in doubt — followed later in the day. AP
Yale, Van Gogh and the Law: A descendant of the onetime owner of a famed Van Gogh painting has sued Yale University in an effort to reclaim the artwork from the Ivy League school. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New Haven, Conn., Pierre Konowaloff alleged that the university should have known the painting-”The Night Café” (pictured) -had been confiscated from his great-grandfather, Ivan Morozov, a Russian industrialist and aristocrat, during the Communist takeover of Russia in the early 1900s.
