Gov. Edward G. Rendell signed into law Wednesday a bill that reduces the full complement of Chester County's common pleas bench from 14 judges to 13 judges until 2014.

State Sen. Dominic F. Pileggi, R-Delaware, the Republican majority leader, added the amendment to House Bill 2172 at the request of the county's three commissioners and with the support of Chester County President Judge James P. MacElree II.

The bill will not remove a judge from the bench. Rather, it will keep an existing vacancy unfilled until the county election in 2013.
