Constitution Day contest

By Pamela

ADVERTISEMENTS

Tomorrow, September 17, is Constitution Day.  To celebrate, the Law Library is sponsoring a contest.  The winner will receive a study carrel for the 09-10 academic year.  Contestants have until the end of the day tomorrow (17th) to answer ten questions about the Constitution.  Answers may be emailed to me, at prmelton@law.sc.edu, or turned in at the Circulation Desk.  In the event of a tie, a winner will be drawn at random from those with the most correct answers.  Good luck!

THE QUIZ:

1)      Article III of the U.S. Constitution establishes which branch of government?

2)      Who penned the original handwritten U.S. Constitution?

3)      Which was the eighth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution?

4)      How many Amendments does the U.S. Constitution have?

5)      What provision of the U.S. Constitution was given a narrow interpretation in the Slaughterhouse cases?

6)      In the Bill of Rights, which Amendment provides a defendant with the right to a lawyer in a criminal case?

7)      What is the provision used to incorporate almost all of the protections of the Bill of Rights to the states?

8)      Who is considered the ?Father of the U.S. Constitution??

9)      What are the two parts of the U.S. Congress? (House & Senate)

10.) In Alexander Hamilton?s proposal (The British Plan), the senate would be chosen by the people for how long of a term?

Bonus question:  From whose draft proposal do some people think the Constitution was largely derived? (Hint: Think South Carolina.)
