From Tom Mighell's enewsletter: "For the next few weeks, I'll be covering some things that every PC user should know (sorry, Mac users, not many of these apply to you), but surprisingly a lot of people don't know.
First, don't double click everything. You double-click to open items in Windows, but you only have to click once in a web browser or with dialog boxes, or pretty much everything else.
Next, a word about slashes: / is a slash, or a front slash, if you must; \ is a backslash. A forward slash (/) is used for internet addresses, while the backslash (\) is used for Windows file paths.
Finally, if a program on your computer crashes, or Windows itself, it will usually try to tell you why it's doing that - sometimes with a brief, specific message, and sometimes with a string of letters or numbers that you won't understand. No matter the message, write it down in its entirety - or take a screenshot, if you are able. Then you can enter the error message into Google to learn more about the specific error message - because you are certainly not the first person to have this problem. If you have to call tech support, you'll already be ahead of game if you can tell the person on the other end of the phone a specific error message."
