DOJ In Top 10 Best Places to Work in Federal Government

By Leah Nylen

ADVERTISEMENTS

The annual rankings for best places to work in the federal government are in and the Justice Department once again has made the top 10.

The yearly rankings — compiled by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan think tank, and American University’s School of Public Affairs — are based on a survey of more than 263,000 federal workers. The groups ask federal workers a variety of questions and use the answers to create numerical scores on such categories as how well the employees’ skills match the agency’s mission statement; management and effective leadership; and work/family balance.

This year, the Justice Department overall clocked in at number 9 — earning a score of 69.3, up one point from 2009.

Within the DOJ, the Environment and Natural Resources Division ranked the highest with a score of 86.7. After ENRD, the Justice Department divisions ranked the best places to work were the Civil Division; the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys and U.S. Attorneys; the Tax Division; and the Antitrust Division.

One DOJ agency also made the list of most improved, according to a Washington Post analysis. The newspaper found that the National Drug Intelligence Center had the highest jump from 2009 to 2010 of any agency subcomponent, increasing its score in 2010 by more than 29 percentage points.
