6th Circuit/ Sanctions vs. law firms over meritless suits

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that, under federal law, courts may not impose sanctions on law firms -- as opposed to individual lawyers -- for knowingly pursuing meritless lawsuits. (See Law.com article ) The Court recounted, "In 2005, we affirmed a grant of partial summary judgment for Lexmark International ("Lexmark") in a suit brought by Lexmarks one-time partners, BDT Products
