Did Yamanaka "accept a grant" from CIRM in August 2007?

By Lawrence B. Ebert, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS
Further to text on californiastemcellreport -- Yamanaka accepted a state grant in August 2007 --, californiastemcellreport kindly forwarded a link

http://www.cirm.ca.gov/RFA/pdf/RFA_07-01/CL1-00514-1.pdf

which is to a CIRM shared laboratory information form (part two) which does in fact mention Yamanaka's name.

The information form names Dr. Deepak Srivastava as "program director" and Deborah Addad as "facilities contact".

Of Yamanaka's name, the information form states "The Whittier foundation has awarded a grant to Gladstone for $1,500,000 to support the recruitment of Dr. Shinya Yamanaka. Dr. Yamanaka has officially accepted a position at Gladstone effective 8/1/07. He will be a major user of the hESC shared core laboratory. Dr. Yamanaka will use a portion of the $1,500,000 grant for a dedicated microinjection set up for making transgenic mice.

Elsewhere, one has: "the recruitment of Dr. Yamanaka will guarantee increased usage."

IPBiz notes that this particular link does NOT support the proposition that Yamanaka accepted a state grant in August 2007. The link does show that Gladstone was name-dropping Yamanaka's name.

The link also does not address the contents of an earlier IPBiz post:

, in a post on 1 Sept 07 , IPBiz noted explicitly that Gladstone was not getting Yamanaka involved in CIRM funding:

Deepak Srivastava, GICD's director, said in a press release that
?Gladstone will provide Shinya with the resources and facilities to
apply his research to human cells.? Yamanaka's work will not be funded by grants from Proposition 71 -- at least not inititally, according to Gladstone spokesperson Valerie Tucker -- allowing it to move forward without concern of whatever revenue-sharing agreement is finally reached.
