Ms. Taylor Marsh ("The antidote to right-wing talk") raises an interesting question about Sen. Barack Obama (Democrat, IL) and his connections with unreconstructed Pentagon bomber and University of Illinois education professor William Ayers, seen at left in a 1968 photo from the Chicago Police Department:

This is the vein in the Democratic party I will never understand, cannot accept on any level. What is it about some people who just don't get the problems with our Democratic nominee being friendly, even taking a contribution (however small), as well as having a meeting as recently as 1995 with an unrepentant domestic terrorist like William Ayers? It reveals a lack of seriousness about the issue of terrorism and the dangerously immature judgment of anyone who is going to associate with a man, at the very least, that Republicans will use to beat us over the head with, having the bonus of hitting a spot the public loves to drink up, which is that our party is not serious about the dangers we face in this world.

The whole thing lives here, under the title, "Barack Obama's Willie Horton." As far as we know, Michael Dukakis never served on any foundation boards with Mr. Horton, despite having turned him loose for a weekend in 1986, a move which probably cost him the White House in 1988.
This is a mystery only if you think that the Democrats don't live in some weird, alternate universe where Al Gore won the 2000 Presidential election, where health care should be turned over to the same people who run the DMV and the Postal Service, and that it's okay for people who have run nothing more than a campaign for the United States Senate to be in charge of the country.
But this will make no difference to the people who are falling down in dead faints at Obama For President rallies. Mr. Obama promises "hope" and "change", not that he has any idea of how to run the country. But that may be because so many people are so disconnected from everything but Survivor and American Idol that they really think the country can be left to run by itself.
