A Better U.S. Economic Stimulus Package - The Little Blue Pill Plan

By Steve Lombardi

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Little Blue Pill Economic Stimulus Plan

Today I’d like to discuss a serious subject; the 787 billion dollar U.S. Economic Stimulus Plan. Frankly it's limp. I see it more of an economic wish list that hopefully will stimulate the economy rather than any kind of plan. Plans take a long time and this Congress didn’t take long enough to half-bake a potato, let alone figure out a complicated economic solution. With less time on my hands than former Illinois governor Blagojevich I did come up with what I think is a better plan.

My plan calls for a similar stimulus package; I'm calling it the Little Blue Pill Plan. I’m advocating we hand out Viagra to every able body man in the United States and encourage other countries around the world to follow suit. You could say I’m advocating we simply point the way. Empirically my plan has historical support. It happened during WWII that the GI’s came home and stimulated our economy by creating the baby boomer generation. We can do the same for generations to come. This plan has as its underlying premise that Viagra and Cialis will do more to stimulate the world economy than the projects listed on the Stimulus Package wish list.

But can the Little Blue Pill (LBP) do the job?

The Official Viagra website identifies what I believe Barack Obama indicated are the most important features of any stimulus package. They are hardness, timing and ability to maintain. Isn’t that also true about the U.S. Stimulus pet projects? The projects should be of the variety of brick and mortar; hardness. The timing to get them done has to work to quickly stimulate the economic cycle. And each project must have the capacity and ability to maintain erecting the economic cycle to stimulate further activity. The makers of Viagra say the LBP will work in 14 to 30 minutes. President Obama is talking about not until September will we feel the stimulus and then how long the economic stimulus will last is uncertain. My plan begins to work immediately with a huge surge coming in nine months; that time frame I’m certain. After nine months my plan will continue on for a generation or more creating jobs and demand for consumer goods. We are talking real job growth not just a temporary artificial growth in demand.

What is the size of the Little Blue Pill Plan?

Let’s do the math. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. There were seventy-six million American children born between 1946 and 1960. Let’s assume half are men and still capable to help out with the stimulus plan. That means we would need roughly 38,000,000 male prescriptions for Viagra. Under my plan we would give each man a 30 day supply of either Viagra or Cialis. We need roughly 1.14 billion little blue pills.

During the LBP Valentine’s Day Special we could have purchased 360 100 mg Viagra tablets for as little as $1.52 per pill. Under my plan U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley does the negotiating and due to the large quantity being purchased he should be able to buy at a much lower price. I’m going to assume a purchase price of 25 cents per pill; for a total cost of $285 million.

Added economic stimulation is factored in.

To get the prescriptions each male will need one visit. Doctor visits would average about $100.00 per visit and we need 38 million. The total bill should be about $ 3.8 Billion. Add the costs of the LBP and the total cost is $4.08 Billion. This would save the taxpayers almost $783 Billion while stimulating long term growth and the manufacturing and service industry that will pay income taxes; offsetting costs of this program with increasing tax revenues.

Adding Tax Incentives At No Additional Cost

Setting the mood just right is important under my plan. We are talking flowers, wine, candy and candles. So let’s budget another $300 per month for each guy. This is an added stimulus to my plan that will enhance my already broad measured economic stimulus package.

And then there are the Victoria’s Secret purchases of ladies under garments. Right now with the post Valentine’s Day specials we can get 75% off. This is money the government won’t have to print because the male tax payers will happily contribute. I propose rather than print money we offer a tax credit for up to $500.00 for the 2009 tax year for VS deductions. Rather than make it complicated it will work on a sliding scale based on bra size.

A Major Tax Benefit - The Master- Abate-ment Plan

I'm going to put Dr. Ruth in charge of this part of the plan. Using size 32AA through size 40 DD there will be 25 tax brackets. With each increase in size you can deduct an extra $250.00. As you can see under my plan simplicity and quick stimulus is the key to success. And if your partner gets pregnant, we will double your dependents for the first five years of the child’s life. This part of the plan is similar to Tax Abatement for improving real estate. Each community gives up a little now for the eventual increased tax base that is certainly to come with additional tax dollars generated from larger families living in their communities. The effect is to include the states in contributing while saving the U.S. government from having to print more money and devaluing everything else we own. You see with every dollar they print they further devalue the residences and creating additional stress on all the liar's who obtained home mortgages and that are supposed to be bailed out by giving them the tax dollars of those citizens who did pay their mortgages and who weren't greedy liars. That part of the bailout package is coming next; it will be called the Don't Let Good Deeds Go Unpunished Stimulus Package or as some would say, the When Atlas Shrugged Payment Plan.

Comparing Plans

So how does my plan compare to the total money being spent on projects by all states and Puerto Rico? The total stimulus package is $787 Billion. Under my plan we spend only $ 4.8 Billion and would save the tax payers $783 Billion while stimulating the long term economic engine of this country. And think of all those men and women walking around all smiling and not thinking about their retirement savings having half the value it did six short months ago. My plan is all about happiness.

That’s $783 Billion less than the amount the governors are requesting. My guess is that President Clinton would have opted for the LBP Plan. He’d have the economy pointing straight up like an Internet stock did in the late 90’s.

Now let’s get to the serious stuff; although I am serious about my plan.

How is the money being spent under President Obama’s plan -

West Virginia has only 1 project, to build a concrete city hall. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by West Virginia is $700,000.

Delaware has only 7 pet projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Delaware is $52,000,000

Washington, D.C. has 8 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Washington, D.C. is $91,700,000.

In Iowa we aren’t begging for much, with only 51 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Iowa is $185,815,080.

Alaska with all that oil money and the infamous bridge to no where wants 46 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Alaska is $415,682,000.

Illinois has 1031 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Illinois is $3,108,484,657.

Texas does every big including holding their hand out for the big tax give-a-way. Texas has 1240 projects on their can-we-beg-loud-enough list. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Texas is $10,775,423,039.

Florida with Uncle Jeb gets the 1,752 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by Florida is $15,644,718,723.

California is begging for 1,971 projects. The total of cost of all the projects submitted by California is $23,194,447,831.

One of the more interesting is doorbells in Mississippi. You too can follow the Stimulus Watch.
