: Chuck NewtonText-Hole

What is it with people and texting?
Sure, I think it is neat and terribly convenient. It is nice at helping me stay top of my game in the practice of law. The new phones are great. But, come on! We do not all have to be text-holes.
You know what a text-hole is. It is someone that texts on their cellphone in inappropriate places and at inappropriate times.
Just because you can text or read a text, does not mean you should. Besides, here is a secret, people do not want to get all of those little snippets from you.
I went to the movie theater tonight and got a little aggravated with all of the texting. And, do not blame it on young people. My wife and I paid a total of $44 to watch the simulcast of The Prairie Home Companion. Gray hair as far as the eye can see. In fact, we are worse than younger people because not only are we trying to text, we are all having to squint through our bifocals to see the words.
Go to lunch now for some food and fellowship, and everyone ignores the one across the table to trade text messages with someone else. Much like cheating on your spouse.
I sometimes text my own kids while at the same table with them just to make a point.
In Court, everybody is texting.
In Church, everybody is texting.
In bed, everybody is texting.
Sitting on the pot, everybody is texting.
There are serious traffic accidents because somebody was texting and driving. On one program they showed a young lady that was seriously injured, near death, for texting while driving. It took her months of physical therapy to recover. After her rehabilitation, it happens again. You would have thought one near death experience would have taught the girl something.
Order food, everyone is texting.
Shipping a package at the Post Office, everyone is texting.
I get text messages from my son while he is in class at high school. "Dad, everybody does it".
I can almost understand the rudeness of taking a call on your cell phone. There is at least a personal appeal to that. A live, fluid conversation is not going to necessarily keep, but most text messages will. Text messages are there for you when you can politely and appropriately get to them. Besides, most text message are just plain inane.
My point is to text responsibly. Do not be a text-hole.
