Taking of a Donald Ross golf course

The Township of River Vale apparently desires to acquire the country club by eminent domain.  This Donald Ross golf course maintains a necessary five acres for affordable housing in the area.  The Township first recognized that filing against a bankrupt estate requires federal bankruptcy court approval.  It would be sad to lose this beautiful course, burdened with too high a purchase price and subsequent bankruptcy, all of which occurred during the go-go days.

FOR SALE: River Vale Country Club. An 18-hole, semi-private golf course, designed by legendary architect Donald Ross, on 99 acres of property located between River Vale Road and the Tappan Reservoir.

The township seeks to improve its purchasing position by filing for eminent domain, Blundo said, "within the next couple of weeks, if not sooner."

That would include not only the course, but an adjacent five-acre property that the township would use to fulfill its state-mandated COAH requirement (Council on Affordable Housing), said administrator Robert J. Gallione Jr.
