My family and I lived in North Carolina for six years (1997-2003). They were formative years for my son Daniel. When Daniel was applying to colleges a few years ago, he wasn't interested in applying to Duke. (Daniel is now a sophomore at Northwestern.) But Daniel is, like Rick, a huge fan of Duke basketball. (My other, and younger, son, Gabriel, could care less about college basketball.) I just received a text message from Daniel, exulting about Duke's eventual win tonight. I have many failings as a parent. One of them: I raised a son who is in the thrall of Duke basketball.
