Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal spares Kansas City outpost from recent wave of layoffs. Kansas City Business Journal. The firm announced layoffs last week firm wide of fewer than 24 associates and fewer than 36 lawyers overall. Firm officials said that the Kansas City office was unaffected by the latest reduction. The firm had two rounds of layoffs in 2008 and then closed its Charlotte, N.C., office on April 1. In May of 2008 the firm let go two associates and about 12 staff members in the Kansas City and St. Louis offices. Sonnenschein's Kansas City office suspended its summer associate program in 2007 but restarted it in 2008.
