It Really Sucks Being in an Auto Accident in Ohio

Posted on February 03, 2010
I thought of titling this piece "Underinsured Motorist Coverage, The Narrow View fits Narrow Minds", but really I couldn't because in reality it just sucks to be a Buckeye. Don't mind me the only thing I've ever done in Ohio was to drive across it on I-80 for spring break and the summer semester from the University of Iowa...

Made In America Meets The Participation Trophy

You know the kind of legal maneuvering that let's those in charge get away with not doing their jobs correctly...

Is the Melissa Lewis Murder Motive ID'd in the Rothstein Plea Agreement with the United States?

Posted on February 02, 2010
Remember Melissa Lewis? If you dont' know about her read my blogs below. Don't ever forget her. My guess is Tony Villegas thinks about her all the time. He must also think about Scott Rothstein the Fort Lauderdale lawyer who has now plead guilty of a $1B+ Ponzi scheme involving his ‘friends' and colleagues...

Texting While Driving Can Teach You A Lot About Medicine

Posted on February 01, 2010
Text messaging can teach you a lot about life; especially when it's combined with driving a truck, a car or even a train. Take a walk with me if you will. But first put down the cell phone so you can see what I'm going to show you. Imagine you're 16-years old, driving east on Highway 20 in Iowa, the weather is not a factor and you're in high school...

Posted on January 29, 2010
All week I've been covering how you should dress for a deposition. Every lawyer has his or her ideas about what might work in your case so ask your attorney...

Who's buttering the U.S. Chamber's Bread?

Posted on January 27, 2010
Melamine is back in the news. This time the Chinese state-run media are saying that once again they've uncovered melamine in milk products. It was found in 2008 and a crack down ensued after hundreds of thousands of children developed some form of kidney failure; but that didn't stop Chinese businesses from once again sneaking it into the supply of baby's milk...

Multiple Sections of Iowa I-35 Closed Due to Weather

Posted on January 26, 2010
Talk about being miserable. At this point in the winter every Iowan has to be sick and tired of battling the snow, ice, wind and sleet. Well let's not forget last weeks brief rain. The interstate, I-35, from Ames to Minnesota's border is closed due to blowing snow...

What manufacturing plant is responsible for the Tylenol recall?

Posted on January 26, 2010
The Tylenol product recall for a chemical smell and contamination of the pills inside the plastic containers seems improbable, if not impossible. Consider for instance how the pills are packaged and how this packaging could allow a chemical to penetrate to the pills inside...

Back To The Basics For Deposition Success ? Boys Will Be Boys

Posted on January 26, 2010
Yesterday we covered how women and girls should dress for a deposition. Today we are going to talk about men, boys and gentlemen. MEN-MAN-BOYS-GENTLEMEN Generally – Dress conservatively not fashionable. It's not going to impress anyone if you wear the latest Ed Hardy t-shirt with large baggy pants that no one can tell if they are long short pants or short long pants...

Posted on January 22, 2010
We drive millions of cars consuming fuel as we go. Some say there are 125 million cars on the American roads while others figure the number closer to 254 million vehicles being registered in the United States. No matter the actual number it's enormous...

Truckers, ditches, Netflix and witches ... hodgepodge news review.

Posted on January 22, 2010
Today we're going to cover a little bit of this and that. We'll start out with a ditch accident in Iowa and end with what's popular. Of course what may be going on in your world may not be all that popular but it's still important to you. On October 7th 2009 Austin Shontz was driving a Buick Rendezvous north on U...

Who sets the speed limits on the Interstate Highways?

Posted on January 21, 2010
Speed limits in the US are set by each state or territory. The speeds chosen depend on a designation selected according to the type of road or the area surrounding the highway. In Iowa for instance we have I-80 and I-35 joining together for a 15 or 20 miles stretch as these roads wrap around Des Moines in central Iowa...

Unconsented Surgery, The Nursing Staffs Legal Obligation

Posted on January 21, 2010
Can the nursing staff be liable when the doctor does an unconsented tubal ligation? I'd say probably not unless of course you knew the doctor was going rogue and you did nothing about it. But that's not the question you should be asking. As a surgical nurse you should ask what should the nursing staff do after it occurs? To answer those questions ask what duty you owe to the patient and to future patients...

If that happened I wonder if we'd still be reading headlines like this one from the Wall Street Jerks-nal...

Posted on January 18, 2010
QUESTION: If I'm not cooking meth why should I care that my neighbor is? ANSWER: Simply put because the explosion and fire he/she causes can injure or kill you. Tylenol manufacturer, McNeil Healthcare LLC, a division of Johnson & Johnson, has expanded the recall of products to include more than two dozen over-the counter products. What should Iowans know about how NAFTA affects highway safety?

Posted on January 15, 2010
Here we sit in Iowa at the confluence of two major highways, I-80 and I-35. Whether you get it or not that's meaningful in terms of our economy and in terms of highway safety. Busy Iowans regularly jump on those interstate highways to make their in-town travel plans materialize faster and smoother...

Methamphetamine (also known as speed, meth, crystal, crank, and sometimes ice) is a man-made chemical widely known for its powerful effects on the human body. It was originally called "crank" because it was hidden in the "crank" cases of motorcycles when it was first manufactured on the west coast...

Whose sperm is in you?

In St. Louis they'd ask: "Whose sperm is on first?" Every once in a while, you come across a story so outrageous that you have trouble believing it's true. This is just such a story. This story from the Greenwich Times is about a fertility doctor who allegedly replaced donor sperm with his own...

Winter driving ? Do you know the Two-Second Rule?

Posted on January 12, 2010
You can do everything right, but… Driving carefully may not be enough to save your life. After all you just might be a passenger and not responsible for driving any vehicle. On the other hand I like to remind my children that sometimes it's not what you do or don't do, but the other drivers who are the one's who are driving distracted...
