Blawg of the Day - Rehan Khalil
Posted on June 01, 2010Rehan Khalil is a personal injury lawyer in Mississauga, Ontario. On his self-titled blog, he's discussing personal injury issues, as you might imagine. Unfortunately, his site isn't really built out - there's a lot of that test latin language on most of the other pages, which is a shame. However, the blog is definitely live and being updated.
Your Own Computer Mechanic
Posted on June 01, 2010If you're using either Windows Vista or Windows 7, definitely check out the Microsoft Fixit Center. MS provides a great little download that helps you diagnose and fix some of the problems that may plague your computer from time to time. The program offers solutions to specific problems, like "problems with sound or audio, or no sound," or Internet Explorer freezes or crashes. Just run or install the troubleshooter, and you'll be taken through a series of steps to help correct the problem. There are also tests that check out overall speed and performance, and common system maintenance tasks. If you are tired of calling tech support or your techie son or friend, download this program and see if it can help you out.

Blawg of the Day - Mass Torts
Posted on May 25, 2010Another great idea for a niche blog today - from Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease comes Mass Torts: State of the Art. Their site describes the blog better than I can: it "tries to be all about the science, politics, and economics of mass torts without having an agenda or bias. It?s also about the art and science of persuasion and its impact on decision-making under uncertainty for only when there?s uncertainty about an injury?s cause is there a need for a judge and jury. Throughout we?ll talk about reasoning, how thinking goes astray and how to best achieve at least rough justice in mass tort cases." Interesting!

Get Real-Time News with Instant Dashboards
Posted on May 24, 2010I've always liked Netvibes - it is one of the best customizable start pages out there. Now they have added even more functionality to their service by introducing the "instant dashboard," literally a real-time look at what the web is saying about a particular topic. To create an instant dashboard in Netvibes (after you've registered, if you haven't already), just click on Dashboards, then New, then enter a keyword you want to track. Netvibes creates a page for you with information on multiple tabs. On the News tab you'll find the latest uploads to Flickr, headlines from Yahoo!, and forum discussions. There's also a tab for videos, but it's the "conversations" tab that is most interesting. It contains modules for Twitter search, Yahoo! Answers, Social Mentions, and more...

Backing up your online data
Posted on May 06, 2010With everything you're posting to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Gmail, and the myriad of other social media sites, it might be safe to say that much of your life resides online somewhere. Have you taken the time to figure out what would happen if, say, one of those services shut its doors? Or had a major data loss? Or just accidentally wiped out your account? Most of us don't. Fortunately, some folks have been doing that thinking for us, and are offering backup functionality for a lot of the services you use online. The service I use is Backupify, because it handles so many different services. Right now it backs up your Flickr, Twitter, Delicious, Zoho, Google Docs, Photobucket, Wordpress, Basecamp, Gmail, Facebook, FriendFeed, Blogger, Hotmail, Picasa, Google Contacts and Google Calendar...
