There Will Be Blood was the best movie we saw last year and this parody is excellent. There Will Be Bud on FunnyOrDie.comThe Wii bowling just shoots it out past the stratosphere.

1-0

We think the prosecution and defense clinics are the two coolest things UVA students get to do.  Not only do you get to try real cases that have a real impact, you frequently win.  Anecdotally, we've heard of several people putting Ds in jail for extended periods as well as successfully keeping people out of jail (That ain't my pot!)...

We thought they didn't believe in free lunches

Posted on March 13, 2008
It's never great to go to all the trouble of inviting down some speaker and having a room full of two people and Mike Stark.  Which is why we applaud the Federalist Society's seat filling strategy.  The first 30 people to today's lecture on the federalization of crime will receive a $10 Chipotle gift card...

Bottle service in C-Ville

Posted on March 13, 2008
According to cVillain, those of you who want to get the hang of ordering bottle service may soon be able to start practicing at Boheme.  Then when you get to New York you can run up a three grand tab on Skadden's dime.  In case you're not familiar with bottle service, this is where you pay $200 for a $30 bottle of Grey Goose...

Spotted this t-shirt at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo over break and managed to snag a photo between country music and bbq ribs. We think paralegals with creative spelling systems are totally undervalued.  Interestingly, they specialize in criminal law...

Overheard on North Grounds

Posted on March 13, 2008
Got a pair of Overheards, one of which is mean and one of which is sad.Girl talking to friend:  Well, my professor is blind so he can't tell if I'm there or not.The New York Legislature is hoping the same thing.  And then there was this one, which we heard...

Biltmore update

Posted on March 13, 2008
Okay, yes, Biltmore is open.   But they did lose their liquor license for a day or three.  Did you notice the heightened security, bracelet technology and price increase?  Pitchers are now $2.25!!! An underage violation usually carries a steep fine and many bars don't have the cash on hand to fix, er, pay the fine...

Are you relaxed and calm?

Posted on March 12, 2008
Well go over to Above the Law where you can get the bejeezus scared out of you.  At the end of the cush summer you're about to enjoy you're going to get no-offered because no one needs lawyers anymore.  Sucks.Time for 2Ls to Panic! (AtL)

$4300 on a professor's salary?

Professor Sprigman's current Facebook status:Christopher Sprigman is Client No. 10. TJ's Doubleplay is Clients 4-7.   For a legal take on Spitzer's potential troubles, check this piece on Slate.

Blogging will commence . . . eventually

Posted on March 10, 2008
Just got back from spring break and remembered that we have a cite check due.  Ouch.

Whoa!

Posted on March 02, 2008
We hear The Biltmore has lost its liquor license?  What's next, Buddhist turns into an actual Buddhist temple?

Doh!

Roger Clemens is probably going to jail.  Idiot.  He has a worse case than Barry Bonds.Congress will ask Justice to investigate Clemens (MSNBC)

Super Check

Posted on February 27, 2008
Our Feb Club correspondent is still out there and still standing.  Pray to the spiritual being of your choice for his continued marginal health. I don’t think that I hit myself repeatedly in the face with a sturdy oak floorboard, but that would explain the feeling I get every time I try to stand up.

They don't take kindly to gunners at Alabama

Posted on February 26, 2008
We have no idea what happened in this classroom, but it appears that if you go off topic at the University of Alabama's law school you will be removed from the class by campus police. Law School Ain't Much Fun (Crimson White)

There are no Democratic Judges

Posted on February 26, 2008
Jeffrey Rosen details the difficulties facing a Democratic president in finding suitable nominees for the Supreme Court.  This is not really that big a problem, we think, since you're only talking about 2-3 people max.  Hey Bobama, we've taken three sections of Con Law...

The Week in Feb Club, pt. 4

Posted on February 26, 2008
The month is nearly over.  We didn't think we'd survive, but here we are, hours away from Spring Break.  We'll probably spend it taking a break from alcohol, getting on the scale to survey the damage, and rehabilitating both our minds and bodies...

Mahoney is the Dean of Feb Club

Posted on February 25, 2008
David Lat manages to find a news peg to link to the Feb Club blog.  We know he's been waiting.  Paul Mahoney -- long rumored to be the heir apparent -- is the new dean.  Judging by the comments, this decision is going to make as few waves as everyone hoped (Maybe we'll still be 10th)...

You owe New Jersey an apology

Posted on February 24, 2008
This was in today's collection of PostSecrets. Um, sorry?

Overheard on a Facebook wall post

Posted on February 22, 2008
It's natural that students at other schools would be somewhat awed by the sheer volume of Feb Club parties:The events you are planning to attend are overwhelming my newsfeed.Wait til you see the photos.Speaking of which, the Feb Club blog got Farked on Wednesday, which basically means the entire world was looking at you in that costume...

You must train on Dagoba

Posted on February 22, 2008
Luke:  Are you all right?  What's wrong?Ben:  I felt a great disturbance in the force . . . as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.  I fear something terrible has happened.Oh yeah.  Journal tryouts start today...

Obama wins by default

Posted on February 21, 2008
Dick Marple, some dude from Hookset, NH, asks an interesting legal question.  Did the 19th Amendment alter Article II Section 1 of the Constitution, which plainly states, "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America...

Say goodbye to these friends

Posted on February 20, 2008
In case you were wondering, the Virginia Law Review announced its new managing board last week (second item).  Don't worry though, the race for clerkships is about to start.  There's plenty more rejection and academic credential stratification left to occur.

Nerd alert!

Posted on February 20, 2008
As you make your way to the Satellite Ballroom tonight be sure to look up at the sky.  There's a total eclipse of the moon going on and it should be viewable everywhere in North America, depending on cloud cover (So we're iffy, here in C-ville).  The next one won't be for three years...

He likes the French? We can tell by the suits.

Posted on February 20, 2008
No idea how we managed to miss this article on Dean Jeffries in the local tab The Hook last month, but it's filled with all sorts of fascinating stuff.  Such as Jeffries was a second liuetenant in Vietnam after clerking for SCOTUS and he almost got expelled for something in high school...

We eagerly await the Kyle ass calendar

Posted on February 20, 2008
We can't fault Bill and Ted for the occasional late post or even the odd day where they have nothing to say.  This blogging business is tough enough to do every day sober.  They also know that the blog is secondary to the partying.  This missed connection oozes creepiness though...

Stuff White People Like

Posted on February 19, 2008
We've become addicted to the blog Stuff White People Like, which basically lists things that white people like, such as Mos Def, irony, and hating their parents.  (Also, blogs about things white people like).  Number 56 on the list so far is: lawyers...

The Week in Feb Club, pt. 3

Posted on February 19, 2008
We're pretty ashamed we missed the party of the week in Das Klub.  We're also ashamed we couldn't stay at Barn Review because we are apparently allergic to hay.  We were ashamed to be at that fraternity.  All in all, a pretty typical amount of shame for this week in Feb Club...

I'm not a miracle worker; I'm a janitor

Posted on February 19, 2008
A new piece in Slate argues that Michael Clayton is an, "indictment of the mercenary universe of white-shoe law firms and a devastating—and unusually accurate—look at the demoralized lives of the lawyers who work for them."Whatever...
